Sabores do Mundo Restaurant - Albufeira

A few nights ago we ended up at Sabores do Mundo on the Albufeira Marina. Although we’ve been to Albufeira countless times, the Marina somehow eluded us. And now we understand why; when you first drive to the marina area, you completely miss the Marina! But, it’s neatly tucked away behind the brightly coloured lego’ish looking apartment complex, the marina is new and quite spacious with lots of walking and playing room for the little ones, which is always a nice surprise.

Along the marina there are a number of shops and restaurants to choose from, and that’s where you’ll find Sabores do Mundo (Flavours of the World). A modern Asian fusion restaurant with a crisp edginess in its décor, and their open kitchen lets you watch Alain the chef, in action from almost anywhere you’re seated.

Sabores do Mundo changes up their menu seasonally, offering fusion dishes from around the world, but one of their main stays is sushi. Being sushi lovers we couldn’t help but give theirs a try, we each had a mixed plate of rolls and sashimi. Although I’m not a big fan of sashimi and prefer funkier rolls, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this sashimi. The reverse rolls were also very good, I particularly liked the ones encased with sesame seeds, there was no holding back on the seeds and this made these rolls pop with even more flavour. Alain did some more magic and prepared a great mahi mahi with sautéed mushrooms. For the Grande finale - a massive mango and coconut soufflé, towering and wiggly until it was devoured - delicious.

Now that we know what’s hiding behind the colorful apartments at the Albufiera marina we’ll be taking a detour to have some of that sushi…and maybe even sneak in another soufflé!

Alain Salles is really one of the greatest cookers I know and definitely the best I work with. Is really a magician in the kitchen and I love to work with him. Come and try the deliciousness and flavored plates he compose and don’t be afraid to order the colored and savored different sushi. I’ll be honored to serve you.

Having booked our holiday to Albufeira, I found the comments above really helpful as I was actually looking for a sushi restaurant and booked my family a table as our last meal treat.

We were amazed at the wonderful food and service! Two of us had sushi and two had the normal (if you can call it that, as it was just so special) restaurant food. As we didn’t really know what we wanted Roger the sushi chef helped us pick what would be right for us. He is so talented and passionate about his craft, that it was wonderful to share this with him. At the end of the meal we met also met Alain who had cooked the most amazing restaurant food. Visually the food was art and taste wise, an explosion of beautiful flavours. Our waiter took very good care of us for the evening. He was knowledgeable, attentive and had a lovely sense of humour.

A wonderful place with great atmosphere, food, service and value for money. We all had the best evening and continue to talk about it and look at our photos of the evening.
