Who said you can’t find funky food in the Algarve?

Although I’ve been known to want for more creative food adventures, seems I might be getting my wish, for a few days anyway.

On June 1st to 3rd, the Algarve Chef & Pastry Chef Association, will be hosting a Molecular Culinary Exhibition at Estádio Algarve, Parque das Cidades. To demonstrate the newest secrets and techniques combining fine cuisine, chemistry and science into an entirely new culinary experience. Dozens of food and beverage companies will also be on hand from both Portugal and abroad. So if you love food and want to try new flavours, textures and are brave enough to try somethings that bubbles, fizzes and smokes, you want to give molecular cuisine a try.

For the uninitiated “Molecular cuisine” is a collision of chemistry, art and food, better described here.

On a recent trip to Toronto we dined at a restaurant that served up a lot of molecular choices - foams, infusions and even dessert turned out to be a scientific experiment with liquid nitrogen and cream, that magically morphed into ice cream. Not something I would recommend anyone try at home…as some of this stuff is actually quite dangerous, but its also a lot of fun to watch.

With all the great staples we have here in the Algarve, I’m super curious as to what these Chef Scientists will pull out of their culinary labs. If your curious as to where the next generation of food preparation is going, you might want to pay this exhibit a visit.
