7th Annual Mama Maratona

An annual marathon organized to bring awareness to all forms of cancer, through film, education, information and fun. This marathon is also strongly focused on raising funds to fight and treat cancer.

The first Mama Marathon took place in 2000, with the objective of raising awareness for breast cancer. Since the initial race, Mama Marathon has kept going strong and its efforts have paid off with the acquisition of a mobile testing unit that covers the entire Algarve. The unit ensures women at risk and between the ages of 50-60 have a cycle of diagnostic testing as a method of prevention. In the next two years, the mobile unit is expected to complete initial testing of every woman in the Algarve!

Mama Marathon

Since treatment is just as critical as prevention, the success of last years Mama Marathon will go towards developing a new patient care center in Faro. The new initiative will provide patients living away from the city, temporary housing and better access to treatment.

Regardless of where we live, most of us know someone affected by cancer. A worthwhile event of only 5/8km that the entire family can participate and walk, jog or ride to the finish. Whether you live here or planning a visit, sign up, grab the sneakers and spend a few hours doing something that will make you feel amazing!
