Forum Algarve - Update on The Gift Concert

Full house at Forum Algarve last night to see The Gift live and in concert. The concert is one of many Free Entry concerts (Entrada Livre) hosted by Forum Algarve this summer and it didn’t disappoint.
I find live concerts interesting — especially when you have a respect for the artist beyond just liking their music; you hope their sound is consistent with their latest album, often it’s not.
I’ve seen “The Gift” in concert on a number of occasions now, and one night a number of months ago that was particularly cold. I continue to be impressed, not only with their ability to be consistent regardless of the situation, but with their depth and professionalism.

Sonia is blessed with a unique voice that seems bottomless and comes from somewhere much deeper than her small frame. She commands this wickedly rich and haunting gift like a craftsman and delivers it like a diplomat. The Gift’s sound is difficult to categorize, it’s deep and dark without being cold or ridged, yet rich and velvety while still having an edge. Their lyrics are emotive and loaded with sentiment, devotion and verve. A truly unique sound from a band that has yet to get its day, but this is inevitable, and proud this Portuguese band is coming from this little pond.
The Gift as good live as their album, if not better, and original enough to forgo fitting into a perfect category. A treat every time we see them live.
Thanks Forum Algarve and The Gift for a great evening!
