What is Fatacil? The simple answer would be “it’s a fair” but it’s actually a lot more than just a fair. Fatacil is an initiative dedicated to progress and innovation for the region of the Algarve, in the areas of Arts & Crafts, Commerce, Tourism and Agriculture and it stresses the differentiation and quality of Portuguese products from other counties such as Spain whom Portugal is often wrongly associated with.

Fatacil hosted its first fair in 1980 and has seen increased participation and traffic year over year. Last years Fatacil included approximately 800 exhibitors, of which 25% were new exhibits, 250 were arts & crafts, 350 commercial & industrial business, 110 Agriculture, 90 varied (schools, organizations, etc.). This years Fatacil is expecting 200,000 visitors to the fair and also to participate in the various concerts that will take place during the 8 day event.
We’re looking forward to our first visit to Fatacil and getting so see some of these crafts being hand produced write in front of us. There is also a daily food event at 11pm featuring “Flavors of the Algarve”, that was enough to sell me.
