Marias da Malhadinha – Portuguese Table Wines

A couple of weeks ago we attended the Lisbon Wine & Food Show with the gang from Adegga. Not only did we have a great time, but also got to try some really incredible Portuguese wines. As expected, there were wines from all over the country, varying in taste and budgets.

Marias da Malhadinha

What impressed me the most was the diversity of the Portuguese wines -Vinho verdes, whites, reds all the way through ports, madeiras, etc. The selection of Portuguese wines is truly dynamic, impressive and makes me proud. So, it’s really a shame that formidable wines like these are not better known outside the country. The most popular Portuguese wine I remember in my travels abroad has consistently been Mateus Rose, although a nice commercial wine, it’s a pale comparison to the serious contenders we have nationally. Forum Algarve - Update on The Gift Concert

Full house at Forum Algarve last night to see The Gift live and in concert. The concert is one of many Free Entry concerts (Entrada Livre) hosted by Forum Algarve this summer and it didn’t disappoint.

I find live concerts interesting — especially when you have a respect for the artist beyond just liking their music; you hope their sound is consistent with their latest album, often it’s not.

I’ve seen “The Gift” in concert on a number of occasions now, and one night a number of months ago that was particularly cold. I continue to be impressed, not only with their ability to be consistent regardless of the situation, but with their depth and professionalism.

Forum Algarve - The Gift

We Algarvios are truly spoiled: great weather – amazing food – non-stop entertainment.

This coming Tuesday, August 21st, we are in for another treat, a free concert at Forum Algarve in Faro, featuring The Gift.

The Gift is a Portuguese alternative band that’s different from any other band I’ve heard coming out of our borders. They have a truly unique sound, and a lead singer with a voice that makes you stop and take notice. The band has been around for a while and isn’t that well known outside YET…but something tells me it’s just a matter of time.
