80,000 turned out for last nights free beach party in old Albufeira city, featuring Bob Sinclar at Praia dos Pescadores (Fisherman’s Beach). Now that’s a Beach Party!

If you don’t know Bob Sinclar by name you will by his music, he’s the French record producer and DJ who’s worked with some of the top international musicians and has popular hits like “Love Generation”, “World Hold On”, “Give a Li’l Love” and others. Adding to the line up was Gary “Nesta” Pine, from Bob Marley’s Waillers and feature vocalist of “Love Generation”, plus Dollarman from “Rock this Party”.

Music started pumping out at 6 pm and lasted until early morning. Tourists and locals of all ages carpeted the sandy inlet while thousands more witness the spectacle from atop the cliffs and balconies overlooking the beach. To add to the fun a dynamic light show accompanied the night’s events, flashing warm swaths of colors across the old city, simply gorgeous. The weather was a little cooler than expected but didn’t stop anyone from moving to the rhythms wherever they were.

One complaint…where was the food?! At 11:30 pm hunger struck and we were hard pressed to find any vendors, restaurants or even a bag of chips for sale. With 80,000 people watching and drinking, there was NADA (nothing) to nibble?! There was however no missing the Sagres beer tents. After some frustrated searching, we found a little hidden street with a sign for Pizza! Famished we headed straight to it and stumbled upon Restaurant Cantinho (The Little Corner Restaurant), they were still open and served everything from lasagna to traditional dishes, but since we were in a hurry to get back, it was Pizza for us, food found, it was good…mission accomplished. Next beach party we hope to see some food! But we’ll also go better prepared and take some pocket snacks just in case.

Aside from the lack of chow the concert was fantastic. Well done and thanks Albufeira, Bob, Nesta, Dollarman and crew!
